From Broken To Whole
In this photographic essay, the dirty and broken mirror shots are my vision of self-exploration through mental perception, the inner mirror, filters, dirt, and varying levels of focus as the metaphor of ego and conscience. It is about meeting yourself within, not seeing a clear image, examining it, becoming friends with it, and arriving to the integration of pieces previously shamed, ignored, or isolated. Start to finish, I hoped to embody a fragmented soul and vision becoming whole through suffering, self exploration, and meditation to then arrive to spiritual and mental freedom. I don't feel that coming out of crisis is a linear process and I wanted to mix up the process of healing in the concept. Also, on the shoot, the weather reflected the concept by storming with lightning, warming us with sun, cooling off, and then hailing.
Not only is Colette the model, she is also a sister and fully embodied the journey of this shoot by adding so much to the concept with her own expression.
